- The U.S. Real Property Sales List is published by
the Federal Property
- Resources Service (FPRS) of the U.S. General
Services Administration (GSA).
- Operating under the authority of the Federal
Property and Administrative
- Services Act of 1949, FPRS is a nationwide
organization engaged in selling
- property no longer needed by the Federal Government.
FPRS is staffed by real
- estate professionals and markets property in all 50
states, the District of
- Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the
U.S. Pacific territories.
- Properties vary widely in value and type. A single
issue of the U. S.
- Real Property Sales List may describe former Federal
office buildings or military
- family housing complexes, small parcels of
unimproved land, high-rise building
- sites in large cities, major acreage for commercial
or industrial development,
- and warehouses. Individual residences confiscated by
law enforcement officials
- are also frequently available.
- As a representative of all taxpayers, GSA is
required by law to obtain
- fair market value for any property it sells.
Generally, major properties are
- sold at auction, and less expensive properties are
disposed of by sealed bid.
- In either case, bidders are required to place a bid
deposit. Sealed bids are
- made on a special bidding form. The bids are opened
on a specific date, and
- the property is awarded to the highest bidder at or
above fair market value.
- FPRS has four regional sales offices. Therefore, the
U.S. Real Property
- Sales List is divided into four sections, with sales
properties listed by
- state and city or county. A map shows the states
covered by each regional office.
- FPRS also has two field offices, and some of the
listings ask you to contact
- these offices. For additional information about
property being offered or
- about the real property sales program, write or
phone one of the regional or field
- offices. Addresses and telephone numbers are at the
back of this booklet.
